BA / EP Surface Finish for Stainless Steel Tubes
Surface finishing with defined treatment scope, roughness and cleanliness requirements.
DLSS supports bright-annealed and electropolished stainless steel tube requirements for heat exchanger and process-equipment projects.
The finishing route is reviewed against the material, tube dimensions, starting condition, required surfaces and inspection specification.

Bright Annealing & Electropolishing
The required finish should identify the processing route, surfaces to be assessed, acceptance criteria and supporting records.

BA — Bright Annealing
Bright annealing uses a controlled protective atmosphere during heat treatment to limit surface oxidation and retain a bright finish.
The process review considers the starting surface, heating and cooling requirements, atmosphere control and final material condition.
Key Controls
Starting Surface · Atmosphere · Heating & Cooling · Final Condition

EP — Electropolishing
Electropolishing uses controlled electrochemical material removal to refine the surface.
The process review considers material suitability, starting condition, treatment area, removal allowance, rinsing and the required finished-surface acceptance criteria.
Key Controls
Treatment Area · Surface Condition · Material Removal · Final Cleaning
“BA” or “EP” alone is not a complete surface specification. Required roughness, cleanliness and inspection criteria must also be defined.
Surface Finish Requirements to Confirm
Define where the finish is required, how it will be measured and which condition must be maintained at delivery.

Material & Starting Condition
Grade · Tube Dimensions · Existing Surface Confirm the material, construction, tube form and condition before processing.
Internal & External Surfaces
Inside Surface · Outside Surface · Specified Areas Identify which surfaces must meet the finish requirement. For EP, confirm the treatment scope separately.
Roughness & Measurement
Ra Requirement · Units · Method · Locations State the required roughness limit, measurement standard, inspection locations and acceptance rule.
Finished Dimensions
OD · ID · Remaining Wall · Tolerances For EP, review material removal together with final dimensions and minimum-wall requirements.
Processing Sequence
Cutting · Bending · Welding · Final Finishing Identify subsequent operations so that finishing, cleaning and final inspection can be planned in the correct sequence.
Cleanliness & Protection
Cleaning Criteria · Drying · End Protection · Packing Define the required delivered condition and how it will be protected after inspection.
Surface Verification & Records
Inspection methods, sampling locations and acceptance limits are agreed before processing.

Visual Surface Inspection
Surface Condition · Discoloration · Visible Defects
Roughness Verification
Specified Parameter · Method · Measurement Locations
Dimensional Inspection
Finished Dimensions · Wall Requirements
Cleanliness Verification
Agreed Checks · Acceptance Criteria
Passivation Verification
Where Required by the Purchase Specification
Identification & Traceability
Material Identity · Processing Batch · Inspection Records
Supporting Documentation
Material Certificate · Processing Records Where Required · Roughness Report · Dimensional Report · Required Verification Results · Traceability
For internal surfaces, the inspection plan should identify accessible locations, sampling arrangements and any limitations in coverage.
Cleaning & Protective Packing
Cleaning, drying and packing arrangements are reviewed together with the required finished-surface condition.

Final Cleaning & Drying
Agreed Cleaning Procedure · Rinsing Where Applicable · Drying
Tube-End & Surface Protection
Suitable Caps · Protective Wrapping · Controlled Handling
Identification & Packing Records
Material References · Product Labels · Packing Requirements
Required cleanliness must be maintained through handling and packing—not only achieved at the end of processing.
