Brass Tubes for Condenser and Cooling-Water Service
Brass condenser tubes are used in surface condensers, evaporators, distillers and heat exchangers where thermal performance, formability and project-specific cooling-water resistance are required.
C68700 and C44300 belong to different brass alloy families:
- C68700 is an aluminum-bearing brass alloy
- C44300 is a tin-bearing admiralty brass alloy
Both alloys are covered by ASTM B111 for seamless condenser and heat-exchanger tubes, but they should not be treated as interchangeable materials.
C44300 is listed for condenser and distiller tube applications, including applications requiring corrosion and pitting resistance. C68700 is listed for condenser, evaporator, distiller and heat-exchanger tubes, including selected fresh-water and salt-water service.
The correct alloy and supply condition should be selected according to:
Cooling-water source · Chloride concentration · Water temperature · Flow velocity · Dissolved solids · Sulfide or pollution level · pH · Design pressure · Fouling tendency · Cleaning method · Tube-to-tubesheet joint · Expected service life · Applicable product standard · Inspection requirements
DLSS supports brass condenser tube projects from material and specification review through straight-tube supply, U-bending, integral finning, inspection, documentation, packing and delivery.

Temper, Grain Size & Supply Condition
Do not place “O61 / H55” in the product headline as though they are the universal default for all C44300 and C68700 tubes. The RFQ and purchase order should state the required temper, grain size and end condition.
Brass condenser tubes should be ordered with a clearly defined temper, grain-size designation or finished condition.
The required condition affects:
- Mechanical properties
- Tube expansion
- U-bending
- Tube-to-tubesheet rolling
- Residual stress
- Grain size
- Integral-fin forming
- End annealing
- Inspection acceptance
For C44300 and C68700 tube products, Copper Development Association data lists OS025, nominal grain size 0.025 mm, as a representative tube condition. This should not be interpreted as the only available condition; the final requirement must follow ASTM B111 and the purchase specification.
Grain-Size-Specified Annealed Tube
Annealed tube condition specified by nominal grain size, such as OS025 where applicable.
Drawn Tube Condition
Light-drawn or hard-drawn condition where permitted by the applicable standard and fabrication requirements.
Integral Enhanced Tube Condition
Under ASTM B359, the finished enhanced tube may be supplied in O61 annealed or as-fabricated condition. Unenhanced sections may retain the prior temper, or be supplied in O61 or H55 where applicable.
